More pets getting stoned on marijuana

Be careful where you stash your weed brownies. The legalization of marijuana in Massachusetts has come with a surge of edible products, giving an alternative to consumers and patients who don’t necessarily want to smoke, vape or take the drug otherwise.But humans are not the only ones drawn to baked goodies, and veterinarians say there’s been a recent spike in the number of emergency room visits by pets who have consumed marijuana products.“We started seeing it a lot when it was first legalized and even more now,” said Dr. Kiko Bracker, a veterinarian at MSPCA-Angell. Swine fever spreads in Japan, 15,000 pigs to be culled

Japan’s swine fever outbreak has spread to five prefectures including Osaka, and more than 10,000 pigs will be culled as part of measures to prevent further contagion, the government said. Local farmers reacts to Maryland Governor helping dairy farmers

Local farmers are calling it a big win for the dairy industry as Governor Hogan pledged to contribute around $1.5 million in state funds. Local dairy farmer, Chuck Fry, said the past four years have been tough for the industry. Fry said that many farmers are losing their property because of the low milk prices. The assistance comes after the government passed the farm bill that left out dairy farmers. The state funds will allow farmers to be a part of a new federal funding program. For every $1 they invest in cutting food waste, restaurants save $7

At one Brooklyn restaurant, the scraps of carrots, beets, and cilantro that come from making one item on the menu are made into a second $15 dish. Other chefs have created dumplings or ravioli or burgers from scraps that would otherwise be wasted–or have started to offer smaller servings, so customers are less likely to leave food on the plate. Many restaurants are thinking about food waste more than they did in the past. But by one estimate, restaurants in the U.S. alone still throw out 22 billion to 33 billion pounds of food each year. Groups to sue US agency over loss of caribou herd

Environmental groups plan to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for failing to prevent the recent loss of the last herd of mountain caribou in the Lower 48 states. The handful of remaining animals were relocated into Canada last November, ending decades of efforts to save the southern Selkirk Mountains herd, which were located in a remote part of northern Idaho and Washington state.
